The starting point.
Moores Metals Ltd is a well-established scrap metal processor and Approved Authorised Treatment Facility (AATF) operating out of Stoke-on-Trent. As an approved facility under the UK WEEE Regulations, they handle a mixed intake of light iron, ferrous scrap, and incidental electrical waste. Like many independent family-run scrap yards, their WEEE volumes were non-commercial and largely cost-driven, accepted as a convenience for trade suppliers.
In April 2025, Moores faced an acute regulatory emergency: the Environment Agency suspended their AATF approval following compliance scrutiny around quarterly evidence returns, weighbridge data reconciliation, and downstream transparency.
Losing AATF approval immediately jeopardised long-term merchant contracts, prevented the issuing of evidence notes, and created severe commercial exposure. Facing strict statutory response deadlines, Moores needed an advisor who understood real yard operations and could speak the Environment Agency’s technical language.
The challenge required moving beyond adversarial disputes to provide clear physical evidence, updated standard operating procedures, and calm, constructive engagement with Agency compliance officers.
